I have had so many friends tell me I needed to start a blog telling about what's going on with my family. So I will give it a try! I am not good at writing and have limited computer knowledge so this may get interesting. First, I will give some background. We are a family of four (and a small zoo) who bought a house in suburbia about 3 years ago. It's not what we wanted but at the time, we didn't know how to do what we wanted to do. We still don't but at least now we are gonna stumble our way through it. We are sick of the rat race we call life. We long for a much simpler way of living. Our dream has always been to buy some land out in the middle of nowhere and build a house debt free. Our plan is to build a small strawbale home with mostly recycled materials. So after many months of searching, we found the perfect piece of land. It's 25 acres with a beautiful view and even a creek...well, at least part of the year. Last year we started to sell off our belongings. We are down to one car, limited furniture and not too much "stuff". We even sold all 3 tvs, Playstation 2, Wii, etc. Child abuse, I know. We spend our weekends in a tent working on the land and cooling off in the creek. There is so much to do, we will be busy for years! It seems like a full time job just clearing brush and trees. We are still waiting for the wind to die down so we can start to burn it all. Maybe then we can cut down on the tick population. A couple weeks ago, I planted 48 berry plants. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and a several types of grapes. As soon as we can afford them, I will plant fruit trees. Since there is no water other than the creek and an old fashioned well, I can't put a garden out there this year. Thankfully I have room for a very small garden at our house. The only 3 pictures I have are older (from winter) but they show a little bit of the land. I will be sure to tote my camera around from now on!
